Clownselors
Volunteer for a smile
Smile Heals
Clownselors, a volunteer based group engaged in medical clowning. Dressed up as clowns, we interact and perform different acts for children and even adults. We use humour to expedite the healing process at hospitals, along with sessions at old age homes, mental homes, orphanages, special schools, shelter homes, refugee camps, schools, universities and workplaces. We also organize free hugs.
“Clownselors started visiting the Chacha Nehru Bal Chikitsalaya three years ago, and have been invited back every week since then. We have found that having them around reduces stress for patients, and for doctors. We’ve seen severely sick children start to speak to us and laugh and even have an appetite for food. We also use them during awareness weeks to help send out our message.”
-Dr MamtaSengar, head of the paediatric department, Chacha Nehru Baal Chikitsalaya.
“Clownselors help bring positivity and hope in children who are otherwise dull and in pain. Children enjoy playing with the clown, they smile and laugh. It helps them forget their pain for some time. It is especially beneficial for children who are terminally ill like in case of cancer.”
-Dr Amita Mahajan, Apollo
